Do you think traditional indigenous knowledge important?
Today, I was at a water conference. As usual, politicians, bureaucrats and scientist, a lot of talk, no action. Or so I thought. After many years in the field, I have become cynical, I often think of hamburgers and fast food would be more meaningful. Today was different, thanks to the opening comments of Joe's blind. Joe has no PhD. He is an Aboriginal elder of Hay River (NWT), which grew in the jungle, they learn from their elders and an intimate life on earth. No PowerPoint presentation or script writing. Only his drum, his words from his heart, simple words full of poetry, the voice of the earth, water, animals, birds, nature, the way they should respect the way that sustains us and future generations, not just physically but spiritually. Everything I learned in college means nothing. Today the teaching of Joe has made a difference in my life. I see clearly now. Joe reminded me why I'm doing what I do. Thank you, Professor of blind.
